How do I change my WiFi name or password?
How you change your WiFi name or password depends on your equipment. If you have Vilo mesh WiFi, change both in the Vilo app on your phone — not in the modem's settings page, because with a mesh the Vilos broadcast your WiFi network. If your WiFi comes straight from the modem (SmartRG, Hitron, Arris, or Cisco), log in to the modem's settings page in a browser and change the network name (SSID) and password under its wireless settings — the steps for each model are below. Either way, after the change you'll need to reconnect every device to the new name/password.
Vilo mesh WiFi — use the Vilo app
If your WiFi is broadcast by Vilo units, the modem's settings page won't help — the WiFi network lives on the Vilos:
- Open the Vilo app on your phone (the one used to set up the mesh).
- Select your network, then open the WiFi settings.
- Edit the WiFi name (SSID) and/or password and save.
- Reconnect your devices to the new name/password — every device drops off when the name or password changes; that's normal.

Having trouble after the change?
If devices won't reconnect or your WiFi is slow or spotty after the change, run our free diagnostics app — it scans your network and pinpoints the problem: https://getrt.co/sc/ZP5PY4. More on how it works: Fix Slow Speeds & Spotty Wi-Fi (RouteThis Helps).
