**Why am I getting a “Weak Security Error"?**


Some devices may show an error while connecting to networks that use an older security standard. Apple iOS 14 may also flag most older Wi-Fi connections (WEP, WPA, WPA2 TKIP or WPA2 TKIP+AES) as "Weak Security." 

To fix this error, you need to log in to your modem's configuration page and change the Authentication type to **WPA2** and Wireless Security/Encryption mode to **AES**. If your modem supports it, **WPA2/WPA3 Transitional mode** is the recommended setting.


Find your modem brand below and follow the instructions  

_SmartRG 516_

1. Open a browser and visit [http://192.168.1.1/](http://192.168.1.1/)

2. When prompted, enter **admin** for the user and **kh3mfMAK** for the password

3. Click **Wireless**

4. Click **5 GHz or 2.4 GHz** depending which network you are using

5. Click **Security**

6. Change the **WPA Encryption to AES**

7. Click Apply/Save at the bottom

_Hitron CGNM-3550_

1. Open a browser and visit [http://192.168.0.1/](http://192.168.0.1/)

2. When prompted, enter **cusadmin** for the user and **password** for the password

3. From the top menu, click **Wireless**

4. Click **5 GHz or 2.4 GHz** depending which network you are using

5. In the **Multiple SSID Settings**, change the **Security mode to WPA-Personal**, change the **Auth Mode to WPA2-PSK**, change the **Encrypt mode to AES**

6. When completed, click Save Changes at the bottom

7. Click Apply/Save at the bottom

_Arris DG2470A_

1. Open a browser and visit [http://192.168.0.1](http://192.168.0.1)

2. For the username, enter **cusadmin** and for password enter **password**.

3. On the top menu, choose **Wireless**

4. From the sub-menu, choose Wireless **2.4 Ghz** (or Wireless **5 Ghz** depending on what interface you are modifying).

5. Change the Security Mode to **WPA2-PSK (AES)**

_Cisco DPC3848_

1.  Open a browser and visit [http://192.168.0.1/](http://192.168.0.1/)
2.  From the **Status** menu (the only menu available) choose **DOCSIS WAN**
3.  Leave the **Username and Password empty and click Log In**.
4.  From the **Wireless** menu, click **Wireless Security**
5.  Change the Security Mode to **WPA2-Personal**
6.  Change the Encryption to **AES**
7.  Click Save Settings
