How to Trace Route on a Windows computer?

Trace route checks the path that your computer uses to reach a remote host or website. This is used to check where the issue is when you can't access a certain host or website.

To make a trace route, you need to open the Command Prompt by doing the following steps first:

  • Click on the Windows icon
  • type cmd
  • press Enter

Once you have the Command Prompt open, type the command tracert <space><web or IP address> then press Enter. Example, tracert google.ca

This will check the number and status of each hop/router the packets will pass before reaching its destination. If a certain site is not accessible, tracert will tell us where the issue most likely is located.

Once you get the result, you can copy the output and send it to us via email: [email protected]
