How to PING using a Windows computer?

The PING command allows users to test the connectivity between your computer and a remote host or website.

To make a ping test, you need to open the Command Prompt by doing the following steps first:

  • Click on the Windows icon
  • type cmd
  • press Enter

Once you have the Command Prompt open, type the command ping <space><web or IP address> then press Enter. Example, ping google.ca

This sends packets to test connectivity if a certain address can be reached. A time out means that there is no connectivity between your computer and the remote address.
